No Tax Hike in Draft Budget Presented to Hellertown Council Monday

Hellertown Borough Council approved the borough’s 2017 preliminary General Fund, Sanitation, Fire Appropriation, Highway Aid and Capital budgets at their meeting Monday night.

Hellertown Borough Council approved the borough’s 2017 preliminary General Fund, Sanitation, Fire Appropriation, Highway Aid and Capital budgets at their meeting Monday night.

Borough manager Cathy Hartranft said the preliminary budget doesn’t include a property tax increase.

The borough’s real estate tax is currently 18.75 mills and its fire tax is 1.5 mills.

The preliminary general fund budget for 2017–which accounts for the majority of the borough’s revenue and expenses–is balanced at $4,140,678.18.

The preliminary budgets will be available for public inspection at Hellertown Borough Hall and on the borough’s website before they are adopted.

Adoption of the 2017 budget and 2017 tax ordinance is scheduled for Monday, Dec. 5, 2016 at Borough Hall, 685 Main St., Hellertown.
