Hellertown Police said Thursday that a borough man has been charged with possession of drug paraphernalia and possession of a controlled substance after he was allegedly found in possession of a two-inch straw police say was used to snort the prescription drug Xanax.

Xanax (generic name alprazolam) is a benzodiazepine used to treat anxiety.

In a news release, police said Shawn Roberts, 26, of the 400 block of Cherry Lane, was allegedly found with the short blue and white straw in his left front pants pocket on the evening of Feb. 27.

Police said the straw had a white powdery residue inside it which turned out to be Xanax.

“(Roberts) doesn’t have a prescription for Xanax,” they added.
