Residents of a leafy Lower Saucon neighborhood want detoured traffic on their streets to slow down.

Several residents of Quarter Mile Road, Sunderland Drive and Surrey Road have reached out to Saucon Source to complain of drivers speeding and blowing stop signs as they navigate around the Bingen Road bridge closure using the narrow local roads.

This is particularly a concern because school is out for the summer and children live in the neighborhood.

Although the official PennDOT detour for the bridge closure follows Hickory Hill Road, Seidersville Road, Rt. 378 and Black River Road, the local roads offer a shorter bypass.

Lower Saucon Township Police have reportedly been monitoring traffic in the neighborhood and issuing a copious amount of traffic citations.

“Police are pulling people over all day long,” one resident told Saucon Source. “Families with little kids won’t let their kids outside to ride bikes.”

The resident requested that Saucon Source remind all motorists to obey posted speed limits and drive cautiously through the neighborhood.

The Bingen Road bridge is expected to be closed through mid-August.
