Mercedes A. Moughan, 79, of Hellertown, died Monday, Jan. 1, 2018 at her residence at Saucon Valley Manor. She was the wife of Joseph A. Moughan.

Mercedes A. Moughan, 79, of Hellertown, died Monday, Jan. 1, 2018 at her residence at Saucon Valley Manor. She was the wife of Joseph A. Moughan. Mercedes was born in Fountain Hill on Feb. 4, 1938 to the late J. David and Carmen (Araujo) Machain. She worked for 17 years at Lehigh University in the Career Center as a secretary until retiring. Prior to that she worked for the CIA in Virginia, where she met her husband. Mercedes was a member of St. Theresa of the Child Jesus Roman Catholic Church, Hellertown, and served as Eucharistic Minister, sang in its choir and was involved with the RCIA.

SURVIVORS

In addition to her husband of 53 years: children: Christopher J. (Lisa J.) Moughan of Hellertown, Tara M. (Miguel A.) Moughan Nieto of Fountain Hill, Marlee Wilson of Hellertown; siblings: Rev. David B. Machain of Norristown, Joseph S. (Nancy) Machain of New Palestine, Ind., Elizabeth C. Turbedsky of Allentown; grandchildren: Andrew J. Nieto, Connor P. Moughan, Liam J. Moughan, Madison S. Wilson, Aidan J. Wilson, Maya C. Nieto and Sofia C. Nieto; close friend: Christine Andrejko of Philadelphia. She was predeceased by son: Sean; siblings: Joseph F., Rev. Alex D., Guadalupe C. and Sister Mary Alexander, SSJ.

SERVICE

Family and friends are invited to call from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 4, 2018 and 11:30 to 12:30 p.m. Friday at the Heintzelman Funeral Home Inc., 326 Main St., Hellertown. The calling hour Friday will be followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 1 p.m. at her church, 1408 Easton Road, Hellertown. The interment will be held privately at the Holy Saviour Cemetery, Bethlehem. Online expressions of sympathy can be recorded at www.heintzelmancares.com.
