It’s that time of year again.

It is high season for heavy traffic and related delays in parts of western Lower Saucon Township and Hellertown borough, because it’s high school graduation season again at Lehigh University’s Stabler Arena.

A total of 10 high school commencement ceremonies will be held at the large indoor arena located at 124 Goodman Drive, Bethlehem, between Friday, June 1 and Tuesday, June 12.

Although Lower Saucon Township and Bethlehem city police will be monitoring traffic flow through nearby signalized intersections at peak times before and after each ceremony, area residents and visitors should still expect to encounter delays on major roads leading to and from Lehigh’s Goodman Campus, including Seidersville Road, Hickory Hill Road, Bingen Road, Black River Road, Mountain Drive North, Mountain Drive South, Friedensville Road, Creek Road, College Drive, Silvex Road, Rt. 412 and Rt. 378.

Below is a list of the 10 scheduled graduation ceremonies’ dates and times.

Motorists who will be driving in the area of Lehigh’s Goodman Campus before or after the ceremonies should expect to encounter heavy traffic and delays, particularly on days when other events are occurring. For example, the annual Saucon Valley Community Yard Sale and the Saucon Valley Conservancy’s Saucon Creek Arts Festival will be taking place on Saturday, June 2, when two separate commencement ceremonies are scheduled at Stabler: Northwestern Lehigh High School at 11 a.m. and Northampton Area High School at 4 p.m.

Note: To help pay for the additional police coverage needed for traffic monitoring, Lehigh University reimburses Lower Saucon Township for police overtime that is accrued.
