The future of Saucon Valley football is secure thanks to the up-and-coming players being nurtured by the Saucon Valley Youth Sports Association, which includes both youth football teams and youth cheerleading squads.

Here is a preview of what fans of the Little Panthers can expect this fall, which Saucon Source will cover each week in the Little Panther Rundown.

Rookie Flag Division

This is a team of 4-5 year olds whose main focus is to learn the fundamentals of the game, get exercise and have fun. Games will be played in a 5-on-5 format and will not be officially scored. The kids have been working hard at practice and are eager to get the season underway.

Competitive Flags

This group of 6-7 year olds is coming off a very good (unofficially undefeated) season last year under Coach Greg. They are returning a number of playmakers on offense and a stout defense that dominated several games. Coach Greg is looking to this group taking another step forward in their development and thinks they should be even better this season.

100 Pounders

Coach Jack is very excited for the upcoming season with this group of 8-9 year olds. They will be running a revamped and fairly sophisticated offense featuring lots of pro-style elements. Coach Bob, who installed the new offense recently, said this team made the playoffs last season, and is working hard to improve upon that performance as they look to take it to the next level this year.

The players and coaches aren’t the only ones preparing to make this a great season. The cheerleaders across all age brackets are also hard at work learning their new routines and are eager to show off their moves on the field as well.

The season kicks off this Saturday with players reporting to Dimmick Park as early as 10 a.m. for matchups against Notre Dame. Please come out and show your support for our community and these hard-working kids, and mark your calendars with the following game dates.

Two Side Notes:

  • First, my apologies to the big boys for not having an opportunity to talk to their coaches this week, as they were in a meeting. I will be able to provide a season preview after speaking with them on picture night.
  • Second, Notre Dame has no flag football entry for either division, so the first game will feature a mixed team of 4, 5, 6 and 7-year-olds, hand-picked by the coach for an intra-squad scrimmage.
