A 26-year-old Hellertown man is charged with allegedly forging a series of checks and stealing gold jewelry between June 29 and July 18, borough police said in a news release Tuesday.

According to a police affidavit filed in Northampton County District Court 03-2-04 in Lower Saucon Township, Nathan Kettering, allegedly stole a gold chain and two gold pendants from a Hellertown woman on July 15.

According to the affidavit he also allegedly stole “several checks” from a different Hellertown residence and later forged them in order to cash them illegally.

“It was also discovered…that (Nathan Kettering) forged the authorizing signature of Craig Kettering on a quantity of 24 of the stolen checks, which were written out for various denominations and cashed by the actor over the course of time starting on June 29, 2018, and ending on July 18, 2018,” said Ofc. Carl Fischer in his sworn affidavit. “The total of said forged checks comprise a value of $2,913.00 and the total value of said stolen jewelry was placed at $750.00.”

Police did not define the relationship between Nathan Kettering and Craig Kettering–if any–in the affidavit.

Nathan Kettering is charged with Felony 2 Forgery, Felony 3 Theft, Felony 3 Receiving Stolen Property, Misdemeanor 1 Theft and Misdemeanor 1 Receiving Stolen Property, according to the police criminal complaint filed in his case.
