Lower Saucon Township residents and others had a chance to chat with the men who help keep their community safe during a “Coffee with a Cop” event held by the department at Giant on Rt. 412 Wednesday morning.
Featuring coffee and freshly-made donuts provided by Giant, the two-hour event was held just inside one of the store’s entrances and provided police and community members with an opportunity to converse in a more relaxed atmosphere than is the norm when official police business is being conducted.
Shoppers were greeted by a number of the department’s officers as well as Chief Tom Barndt as they entered the store, which is the only major grocery store in Saucon Valley.
The Lower Saucon Township Police Department currently employs 15 full-time officers, six part-time officers and two civilian support staff members.
The department’s mission, as stated on the Lower Saucon Township website, is to “preserve the public peace and order, to protect life and property, and to enforce the laws of the United States, the Commonwealth, and the Township; to stimulate public awareness of law enforcement programs through the conduct of safety and crime prevention educational activities and community relations programs; and to provide prompt and courteous assistance to the public.”
Residents can subscribe to receive updates from the department via their Crimewatch site, where information about public safety concerns, traffic, arrests, resources and more is regularly shared.
The department also has a Facebook page that is regularly updated.
Wish this was better publicized, I and many others would have like to meet these heroes, talk with them, and thank them for their daily sacrifice and of their fellow brother’s in uniform.
