Hellertown Borough Council Monday approved a recommendation by police chief Robert Shupp to make temporary changes to a traffic pattern and restrict on-street parking in the area of the Saucon Valley Farmers’ Market, which will be held next to the Hellertown Area Library on Constitution Avenue this year.
Council approved making Rohn Road one-way from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Sundays and prohibiting parking on the narrow street, which borough public works director Tom Henshaw said is regularly used by six or seven residents who park cars along it.
Rohn Road runs behind the library between Constitution Avenue and Juniper Road. The homes with garages along Rohn are located on Locust Road, which is in the borough’s Mountainview section.
The farmers’ market will be open Sundays from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. from May 3 through late November, with more than 40 vendors filling the grassy field next to the library.
Normally the market is held in the borough’s Water Street Park, which will be closed this year for renovations.
Parking for the market will be available along Constitution Avenue, in the HAL parking lot and at Dimmick Park.
