In a Facebook post published Monday, the Lower Saucon Township Police Department warned residents to be on the alert for a possible police impersonator in the Bethlehem area.
Police said a township resident reported that about two weeks ago his son was pulled over by a heavyset Hispanic man driving a white Ford Crown Victoria (an old police car) on Pembroke Road in Bethlehem.
The vehicle was reportedly equipped with a spotlight and a blue light in its grill, and had peeling paint on its hood.
“The operator activated the lights and when (the man’s) son pulled over, the male approached him on the driver side and asked if he knew why he was being pulled over,” police said. “The male asked for his son’s information and then laughed and said he was just messing around and told him to be on his way.”
According to police, the possible impersonator was dressed in a black shirt and black pants and had a gun in a holster on his side and a badge on his shirt that was partially covered. There was no marking on the vehicle or his shirt.
Police said the incident was also reported to the Bethlehem City and Bethlehem Township police departments.
Motorists who wish to verify the identity of an officer who has stopped them can call the Northampton County non-emergency dispatch number at 610-759-2200 or dial 911.
