It was a foregone conclusion that the Saucon Valley Panther wrestlers would defeat Palisades on Senior Night.  There were no surprises Tuesday as the Panthers rolled to a 70-6 victory over the Pirates.  Saucon finished the Colonial League regular season with a perfect 8-0 record (19-0 overall) and has earned the #1 seed in the Colonial League tournament to be held on Jan. 30 at Catasauqua High School.

The match was over before it started due to the fact that the Pirates were giving up 9 forfeits.  Forfeit victories were awarded to Dane Druckenmiller (106), Kevin Dyer (113), Paul Miller (126), Angelo Mahaffey (138), Jason Jones (145), Nate Kehs (170), Jarrett Hirschbeck (182), Devin Fontanez (220) and Trey Polak (285).  The forfeits added up to 54-0 Panther points.

Saucon Valley’s Stephen Good (16-9) battles his way to a first period pin.

Saucon Valley also earned maximum points from sophomore Josh Jones (120) and senior Stephen Good (195) with their first period pins against a pair of Palisades sophomores.  Jones earned his fall against Parker Lambert in just 30 seconds.  Good finished Dane Kreschollek in 1:52.

Sophomore Justin Kyra (18-3) was in complete control Tuesday night against the Pirates’ Adam Marsh.

The only other points of the match for the Panthers came at the 132 pound weight class from a major-decision by sophomore Justin Kyra over sophomore Adam Marsh.  Kyra jumped on Marsh with a takedown and three near-fall points.  Marsh was granted an escape, but Kyra took him down again to end the first period with a 7-1 lead.  Marsh chose to start the second period on top of Kyra, but the Panther was too slick and reversed him for a 9-1 lead after two periods.  Choosing neutral to start the third period, Kyra scored another takedown.  Marsh did manage a late escape to finish the bout, but it ended as an 11-2 Kyra victory.

Kyra earned an 11-2 major-decision for the Panthers.

Up Next:  The 19-0 Panthers have earned the top seed in the upcoming Colonial League tournament on Monday, Jan. 30.  The semi-finals start at 5:30, followed by the finals at 7 p.m. With two more wins, the Panthers will win their 5th consecutive Colonial League title. C’mon out and support the Panthers as they strive for five!
