In a news release issued Wednesday, Hellertown Police Det. Michael Dattilio said Luis A. Cordero-Rodriguez, 20, was arrested Monday and charged with two counts of statutory sexual assault and two counts of corruption of minors, all of which are felony offenses.

According to court records, the statutory sexual assault charges are for an alleged perpetrator who is 4 to 8 years older than the alleged victim.

“Hellertown Police began investigating circumstances surround allegations of inappropriate sexual contact between an adult male and a juvenile female under the age of 16” on July 1, Dattilio said. “During the course of the investigation, police learned of an additional incident of similar circumstances involving the same suspect and a separate juvenile female also under the age of 16.”

Following a preliminary arraignment at District Court 03-2-04 before District Judge Alan R. Mege Monday, Cordero-Rodriguez was committed to the Northampton County Prison in lieu of $50,000 straight bail, the news release indicated.

A preliminary hearing for Cordero-Rodriguez, who turns 21 on Oct. 10, is scheduled for Oct. 11 at 1:30 p.m. before Mege, according to court records.
