A Florida truck driver who in June 2018 exceeded a posted weight limit on a Hellertown street by more than 24 tons will have to pay a fine of $14,250 by Northampton County judge F.P. Kimberley McFadden, a state superior court has ruled.

Lehigh Valley Live reported Wednesday that Na’ron Akins, 40, claimed that his truck’s GPS told him to drive down Northampton Street and that he should have received a local traffic exemption because he was picking up cargo on a nearby street to take to Texas.

In an opinion, Superior Court Judge Mary Jane Bowes rejected Akins’ arguments and found that he only would have been eligible for the exemption had he been picking up cargo on Northampton Street, which has a 6 ton weight limit, the news report indicated.
