A Freemansburg man is facing charges for allegedly leading Hellertown police on a brief pursuit into the city of Bethlehem last month, according to borough police.

In a news release, Hellertown police said Steven Michael Henrik, 37, was driving in the 1600 block of Main Street shortly before 3:30 a.m. on Nov. 22 when an officer attempted to stop him “for a summary traffic violation as well as an arrest warrant.”

Police said Henrik then allegedly accelerated “and led the officer on a short pursuit before being stopped on Princeton Avenue in Bethlehem,” which is about half a mile north on Rt. 412, on the other side of I-78.

According to county court records, Henrik is charged with Fleeing or Attempting to Elude an Officer (Misdemeanor 2) and Disorderly Conduct (Misdemeanor 3) as well as the following summary violations: driving on a suspended license, driving without a license and speeding.

Court records indicate that a preliminary hearing in his case is scheduled for Jan. 15 at 2:45 p.m. before District Judge Alan Mege in Lower Saucon Township.

Police did not specify in the news release what Henrik’s arrest warrant was for.

Note: Individuals charged with a crime are presumed innocent until proven guilty. This story was compiled using information from police and public court documents.
