On a hot and steamy Saturday afternoon, the Saucon Valley Panthers loaded the bus and made the trip to take on the Warriors of Wilson in a Saturday afternoon matinee.  Wilson entered the sauna intent on improving to a 4-0 record while the Panthers were looking to get back to even at 2-2.

Pottsville Pounds Sloppy Saucon

Friday night the Saucon Valley Panthers packed their bags and traveled to Pottsville to take on the Crimson Tide.  This game stems from an agreement between the Colonial League and Schuylkill League to create a level playing field by scheduling matchups between the bigger and smaller schools in each league.  The Panthers will now play the bigger programs from the Schuylkill League like Pottsville, Blue Mountain and Lehighton while giving up the smaller Colonial League schools like Catasauqua, Northern Lehigh and Pen Argyl.  The agreement which was finally brokered in January, 2019 was meant to go into effect last season, but due to COVID-19 the inaugural plan had to quarantine until this season.

Chewin’ the Pigskin Fat: Q & A With Panther Coach, Brad Trembler

Even though the COVID-19 rollercoaster ride keeps trekking along with unexpected twists and turns, the high school sports circus sideshow from a year ago seems to be in remission.  Of course that could change in an hour or two, but as of now the start of the 2021 PIAA fall sports season is just a little over two weeks away. Saucon Source was able to catch up with Saucon Valley Coach Brad Trembler to ask him a few football friendly questions, and here is what he had to say.

Saucon’s Scrivanich Wins National Title at Fargo

In addition to being a polite and well-mannered sixteen year old rising junior at Saucon Valley High School, Liam Scrivanich is a talented wrestler for the Panthers.  Last year as a sophomore during the 2020-2021 high school wrestling season, Liam quietly crept into the spotlight as a PIAA state qualifier in the 160-pound weight class.  Although he went two-and-out with his first trip to states, Liam continued to refine and develop his craft throughout the spring and early summer. Last week his efforts reaped reward as Scrivanich earned himself the trip to the top of a podium in Fargo, North Dakota.  Liam willed his way to beat the rest of the 160-pound field and become the 2021 U16 National Champion in Greco-Roman wrestling.

Saucon Baseball Battles To Bittersweet End of Season

Last Tuesday, the Saucon Valley high school baseball team hosted the North Schuylkill Spartans in the opening round of the 2021 District XI championships.  The Panthers entered the tournament as the #3 seed with the Spartans as #6.

Panther Baseball Squeezed By Pirates In Clunker

Friday evening the sixth seeded Palisades Pirate high school baseball team traveled to Saucon Valley to take part in the quarterfinals of the single elimination Colonial League baseball tournament against the third-seed Panthers.  It would be the third time this season that the two teams went head-to-head.   In regular season play, the Panthers got the best of the Pirates with a pair of 5-2 wins.  This time, however, things would be different.

Saucon Coed Soccer Crushes Catty

For the past few years Saucon Valley Athletics has provided an opportunity for middle school students in seventh and eighth grade to participate in organized soccer.  The team is co-ed with boys and girls typically competing together against most of the other Colonial League schools.  This year however, with COVID concerns, only Saucon, Bangor, Catasauqua, Salisbury and Northern Lehigh are fielding middle school teams. After missing last year because of the pandemic, the Panthers have a talented bunch of participants and are off to a pretty good start.
