Saucon Valley’s Jake Jones Wins Pennsylvania Junior Wrestling State Championship

Last weekend Saucon Valley eighth grader, Jake Jones made the trip to Johnstown, Pennsylvania to compete in the 2019 Pennsylvania Junior Wrestling State Championship.  Jones steamrolled the 140-pound field with a couple of pins, a couple of major-decisions and a controlling 8-1 decision in one of the early rounds.  Jake Jones has now earned the title of PJW State Champ.  He is the first Saucon Valley wrestler to ever win a PJW junior-high state title.

Six Panther Wrestlers Packing Bags For PIAA State Tourney (Brought to You by Spirk Brothers Inc.)

The Saucon Valley Panthers sent ten wrestlers to the PIAA Southeast Regional tournament over the weekend at Wilson West Lawn High School.  Cael Markle (106), Josh Jones (132), Thomas Spirk (138), Nick Rosengrant (145), Ty Csencsits (152), Matt Arciuolo (160), Braydyn Lugardo (182), Dane Csencsits (195) and Nick Warnke (285) all made the trip for the Panthers.  Of the ten, six advanced and paved their way to next weekends 2019 PIAA State wrestling tournament in Hershey.

Little Panther Wrestlers Qualify For Big State Tournament

Last weekend eight Saucon Valley elementary and middle school student-athletes qualified for the Pennsylvania Junior Wrestling State Championship.  Both youth and junior-high wrestlers earned their spots for the state championships at a tournament held at Nazareth High School on Sunday, Feb. 25.  Now, these little Panthers have advanced and will compete for a Pennsylvania state title.

Saucon Valley Thunder Put It All On The Line Against Canes In Championship Game

The Saucon Valley Thunder are a group of eight homegrown Saucon Valley Middle School sixth graders who play organized basketball.  They are coached by Reggie Robertson and Dan Miller.  The Thunder are one of seventeen teams representing Saucon in the Junior Cadet Division of the Lehigh Valley Knee-Hi Basketball League.  Saturday afternoon the Thunder competed in their league championship game.

Team Saucon Powers Through 2019 District XI Individual Wrestling Tourney (Brought to You by Spirk Brothers Inc.)

Ten Saucon Valley Panther wrestlers have survived the 2019 District XI wrestling tournament and now move on to Regionals.  A top-6 finish in the PIAA Regional tournament starting March 1st at Wilson West Lawn High School, brings a trip to Hershey and an opportunity for a PIAA State title.  As a team, the Panthers paced the pack and earned the most points to claim District XI’s team award.

Seven straight Colonial League titles and four consecutive District XI championships is far from a passing moment. Throw in a couple of state titles and 12 state champions, and you certainly have more of an extensive and established tradition. The success and depth of Saucon Valley wrestling’s fortune runs deep. Obvious credit goes out to the coaches and athletes over the years that have forged the prolonged success with their blood, sweat and tears. But, there are other key pillars sitting mat-side and in the background whose contributions maintain and stabilize the rich tradition. One of those key players who is whole-heartedly connected to Panther wrestling is long-time scorekeeper, Cathy Leibensperger.

Saucon Valley Hosts Student-Athlete Signing Ceremony

Across the United States, the first Wednesday in February is National Letter of Intent Day. It is the first day in which high school senior student-athletes all across the country officially commit to their prospective universities. Tuesday night at Saucon Valley High School, Director of Athletics, Robert Frey, was finally able to avoid Mother Nature’s wintry ways and gather an assortment of seniors who will be continuing their academic and athletic careers at the next level.  Eight Panthers joined with family, friends and teammates to sign their letters during a school-sponsored celebration.
