The Saucon Valley High School varsity wrestling team is participating in the “Beast of the East” this weekend. Held at the University of Delaware, “The Beast” is one of the toughest high school wrestling tournaments in the Nation.
Seven of the nation’s top 20 high school wrestling programs are participating including Lehigh Valley powerhouses Bethlehem Catholic, Nazareth, Northampton, Phillipsburg (N.J.) and Saucon Valley. Bethlehem Catholic (7th) and Nazareth (11th) are ranked nationally by Flowrestling.
In addition to elite wrestling high schools from up and down the East Coast like Blair Academy (1st) and Bergen Catholic (8th), other heavy hitters from California, Colorado and Ohio are enthusiastically represented.
“This is a great opportunity for our wrestlers to be exposed to some of the best wrestling in the country,” Shirk said. “It will be an incredible learning experience for our kids, one that can only help us throughout the season.”
With over 700 wrestlers competing on 11 mats, this two-day event will surely get the Saucon Valley wrestlers battle-tested and ready to pursue a 5th straight Colonial League title and much more.
