Sagra Bistro meals are packaged and ready to be delivered. The meals are designed to eliminate all fuss, because there is no cooking and only minimal clean-up involved.

Ready-to-eat meal services aren’t exactly new, but they are new to Saucon Valley.

Sagra Bistro & Bar, which is already well-known in the area as an eatery with a tasty, inventive menu, now offers its food in the form of ready-to-eat meals that are ideal for busy individuals or families, as well as special occasions or even families preoccupied with the loss of a loved one. Ready-to-eat meals also make great gifts.

Lasagna is a popular ready-to-eat meal often offered by Sagra Bistro’s heat-and-eat meal service.

Unlike larger companies such as Blue Apron and HelloFresh, which deliver fresh ingredients and recipes to your door, Sagra’s meals are packaged to “heat and eat,” thus saving you time you would otherwise spend on prep work, cooking and clean-up.

And since there’s never an ordering commitment, you can purchase one meal or enough food to fill your whole fridge for a week, and you don’t have to place an order every week.

How does the ordering process work?

It’s easy. Every other weekend, Sagra chef/owner Robyn Cavallaro sends out an email with a link to the current list of meal offerings and pricing.

There are three price categories for each meal (1 person, 2 people or 4 people), and organic, gluten-free, vegan, vegetarian and Paleo options are available, along with delivery throughout the Lehigh Valley (for an additional fee). If an item isn’t labeled “V” (for vegan), for example, Cavallaro advises asking whether it can be made to suit custom dietary requirements, which may require a price adjustment.

Orders can be placed by calling 484-851-3220 or emailing ro***@sa*********.com by Wednesday each week for pickup at the restaurant, 620 Main St., Hellertown, on the following Tuesday.

A few examples of meals on a recent menu are:

Beef Enchiladas with Mexican Rice and Tomato Salad

  • Beef Enchiladas with Mexican Rice and Tomato Salad – GF ($12/$20/$35)
  • Filet Mignon with Mashed Potatoes and Green Beans – GF ($18/$36/$72)
  • Salmon with a Lemon Garlic Caper Sauce, Brown Rice and Green Beans – GF ($14/$28/$56)
  • Shrimp Scampi with Linguine and Salad ($14/$28/$56)

Salmon with a lemon garlic caper sauce served with brown rice and green beans is a gluten-free option.

Hearty soups by the quart, appetizers such as Sagra’s cheesy Bubble Bread and Signature Cheese Torte (available in several sizes), and tempting desserts available by the slice or whole can also be ordered, and are listed on each menu.

Bubble Bread

Sagra’s Cheese Torte is available in several sizes.

Some examples of recent ready-to-eat vegetarian dishes prepared fresh by Cavallaro include Swiss, spinach and mushroom deep dish quiche; eggplant meatballs with pasta; and spaghetti squash and quinoa cakes.

Spaghetti squash and quinoa cakes are a vegetarian option.

Cavallaro uses locally-sourced ingredients whenever possible, and stresses that her dishes are complex, and not all simple stir fry-type options some other providers may offer.

When placing your order, please be sure to include your name, address, phone number and the best time to contact you, the items you are ordering (along with the number of people you are ordering them for), your delivery date and a list of any food allergies or sensitivities. Credit card payment is taken at the time of order placement, and an invoice/email is then sent to confirm the order.

Although Cavallaro says the meals are crafted to be enjoyed fresh, many can also be frozen to enjoy later. Reheating instructions are included with each order.

All-organic menus are also available at an additional charge (prices will vary depending on ingredients), and larger orders can be accommodated upon request, with advance notice.

Sign up to receive the ready-to-eat meals menu via email twice-monthly on the Sagra website, or by texting “FILLMYFRIDGE” (all one word) to 33444 and following the prompts.

Questions? Or are you ready to place an order? Please call Robyn Cavallaro at 610-721-9608 or email her at ro***@sa*********.com to begin a tasty new adventure.

Also, be sure follow Sagra on Instagram and Facebook for regular updates about ready-to-eat meals, upcoming special events and more.

Sagra’s popular filet mignon, which is also available for $15 every day at the restaurant ($18 for takeout). When ordered for a ready-to-eat meal the filet is prepared very rare, so it can be seared to one’s liking at home.

A fresh-made mozzarella appetizer served with roasted red peppers and foccacia serves two and is available for $10.

New York Style Cheesecake is available by the slice or as a whole dessert.
