Teens are known for sometimes being impulsive, and that behavior can carry over to their driving habits. For example, the decision not to wear a seat belt when driving a short distance is easily made by someone not thinking about or aware of the potential consequences.

That is why Lower Saucon Township and Hellertown borough police will be working to connect with teens and educate them about the importance of seat belt use while conducting an “enforcement mobilization” initiative at various times Oct. 19-28 at Saucon Valley High School and on surrounding roadways, according to a news release.

“The enforcement, coupled with educational outreach efforts, aims to increase teen seat belt use and raise awareness of the state’s primary law stating all vehicle occupants under 18 years old must wear a seat belt,” the news release said.

“Drivers and front seat passengers over 18 years old who are cited for another traffic violation will receive a second ticket if they’re unbuckled,” it added.

The mobilization is part of a statewide campaign being held in conjunction with National Teen Driver Safety Week.
